WHY SHOULD I CARE TO COME???

10 days ago the Nuclear Regulatory Commission voted to approve the plan for Private Fuel Storage (of La Crosse, WI!!) to ship about 80 million pounds of high level radioactive spent fuel rods to a Native American Indian Reservation in Utah. Dairyland Power and Xcel Energy are two of the utilities--a totally private venture---who will be responsible for the shipment, placement, and upkeep of that nuclear fuel. This will mean more than 10,000 shipments of such fuel across nearly every major city in the United States on its way to a site managed by a "limited liability corporation".

Learn about our community, learn about why you have heard nothing about this in La Crosse even though its headquarters and chief operating officer is from La Crosse. Learn why Tribes across the country are opposed to such a movement of waste...and why one Native Community---in spite of a contested election (as of yet, unresolved and in the courts) is willing to accept the waste.

Pigtails for Peace and more...

After a confusion over the starting time for the meeting, our meeting began with a duet of two curly haired, pig-tailed women singing about their love for peace. Although the international movement, Mustaches For Peace, started by our very own Ryan Schryver, has taken off with a ba-boom, Jill and Erin felt a little left out by their lack of hair on their upper lip. So they've started a new movement, it's currently a national movement, but will soon catch like wildfire and pigtails, mustaches and any other body hair one can muster up will be the way to peace. The power of hair is a beautiful thing.
So anyway, here is what was talked about this evening at our meeting...
